immobliser probems in volkswagen polo?

Went to use my car (1996 volkswagen polo with factory fitted immobilizer) this morning , and the key/immobilizer fob wouldn’t unlock the car. The light on the fob is working but i fear that the problem is either the immobilizer in the car or the battery has died. I currently cannot get into the car the open the bonnet to jump start the car, as i don’t want to unlock the car with the key in case this sets of the alarm. Any suggestions, i.e will the alarm go off? Many thanks!
p.s. recently had a lot of heavy rain and inside of car is steamed up, don’t know if thats relevant or not!

well ,, this might help……. you… OK.. i have a golf cab mk1….. i went to open it one day,,, and my alarm did not work,,, My key fob light was ok so key fob battery ok,,, I looked in my car see if the immobliser light was on like they usually are if all ok… but it wasnt.. so my answer is the battery has died… So no harm you opening your car manually as your electrics are dead.. alarm included,,,,
If u hav a spare key alarm give a try…. IF alarm goes off and your key light working ok u can disarm alarm…
Hmm it is possible with rain has dampened everything again I had a prob where my alarm was ok,, but when starting my car… it wouldnt turn… I assumed it was my battery,, and i took it out for no reason…. was rain had damped my sparks and leads…. wd40 spaying on them should help.
