Monitor Alarm Systems

I just moved into a house that has an ADT alarm system. Any idea how to program it so an alarm can go off?
I am trying to do this without paying ADT to monitor the system. Thank you!
Check the yellow pages for a security installer that lists the brand of equipment in your house. They may have a manual or be able to help you.
