Kids Alarm Watches
Smoke Alarm Fear?
On Monday, our fire/burgalar alarm company installed all new smoke alarms throughout our house and in all the kids bedrooms. (were moving in July and we had to get new ones put in to pass inspection) They’re kind of weird looking and have a red light on them that flashes every minute or so (nothing you would notice unless you were staring at it) My almost 3yr son is scared to death of the new smoke alarms and can’t sleep because he says “it’s watching and flashing at him.” I can’t unplug it since it’s hardwired and can’t really cover it because its a funny shape and it’s on the ceiling. Anyone have any suggestions on how to help him get over it?

it looks like that
Maybe just explain to him that it’s there to protect him & help keep your family safe – not to go into details of “in case there is a fire” and scare him more – but a simple explanation of some sort.
Also – perhaps putting a small piece of medical tape over the light, or a bandaid might help – so that it doesn’t blink at him. Or maybe even turning it into a smiley face – with the red blinking light as a nose.
Good luck!! Kids are afraid of the funniest things sometimes.
