Does the ihome alarm clocks work as plain speakers as well?

For Christmas my mom told me that she’s buying me an ipod classic.
She only told me because it’s the one thing that I asked for and desperately want.
I’m looking to buy speakers to go with my ipod and I really want to know if the ihome alarm clocks would work like the plain speakers would if I wanted it to.

it depends on what you use it for

my iPod touch’s little built in speaker works just fine to wake me up as long as it’s like 4 inches away from me
