smoke alarm has new batteries and still blinks red off and on?

one of my smoke detectors started chirping and I changed the battery and stop chirping. I realized that sometimes still flashes red – I thought the light should be green only when the battery is good? also all others seem to also periodically flashing red. my house if fairly new. Is it normal?

Detectors I (Firex) glow steady green when is connected to AC, then flashes red once every 60 seconds to show that there is a battery installed and the tension is good. Hope this helps.
