Making The Right Moves With A Wireless Home Alarm System

If you’ve chosen to protect your family with a wireless home alarm system, you’ve already taken the first step towards total security.  However, the journey does not end there.  To get everything in order, you have to back up the main components of your alarm with the proper accessories.  Besides technology, you will also need to remember the human element, making sure you haven’t left out a last line of defense.  Here are five ideas for setting up your wireless home alarm system the right way.

1. Position your motion sensors wisely.  No matter what type of home security plan you have in place, if you haven’t done the right thing with the motion sensors, you will be putting everyone at risk.  Cover the important zones close to staircases (at both bottom and top) and remember that ground floor windows should probably have them nearby, as window break sensors can’t be counted on in every capacity.  No matter how someone gets inside, you should know what is taking place in your home.

2.  Get the glitches out of the way.  You will have a few kinks to work out in the beginning, but if you manage the alarm installation and testing properly, you won’t have a problem later.  Make sure your wireless alarm can detect the presence of a pet and won’t be due for updates any time in the near future.  If your home alarm attracts the attention of the police too often without reason, you may end up being responsible for fines because of public disturbances.

3. Make your keypad the master control system.  You will end up with a lot of different elements in your wireless system, but you’ll be wasting your time if you cannot control them from a single place.  Your alarm’s control pad should detail the activity taking place around your property, from motion and window sensors to smoke and poison control devices.  Simplicity is definitely helpful, but take the time to master the system of the more complicated models, too, because it is an invaluable resource.

4. Go wireless with your cameras.  Covering a lot of ground is a big challenge for home alarm systems, but you can use wireless technology to help you out on all fronts.  Wireless surveillance cameras can be installed on hard-to-see corners of your home and let you keep an eye on things when you hear a noise and want it identified safely.  Watching footage being taken by your camera is normally as easy as logging in to check your email.

5. Get your monitoring plan together.  If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?  The same applies to your wireless alarm system.  Unless you have a monitoring service intact and know the protocol once they call your home, it’s like having no protection at all.  Make sure your alarm is being monitored.
