My smoke alarm made a Very loud POP sound?

My smoke alarm made a very loud Pop sound, sounded like an electrical pop. It was very loud and then is started to chirp every 30 seconds or so. Now I understand the Chirp, it means I need to change the battery. But what was the very loud pop? Will the alarm need to be replaces? It cant catch on fire can it?

Replace the smoke alarm and the battery.
