Credit Card Alarm

Should I buy a car with a refund in order to pay off Credit Card Debt?

I had a private student loan for $5800 at 12.5%. I balanced transfered that money to a Credit Card for 3.9% for life of loan. The interest rate makes sense but is credit card debt more alarming to creditors than if I would have just left it as a student loan?
Also, I can buy a new car with a $5800 rebate (could pay off CC with that) which would cost me $450/month for 60. My current car (2003 Saturn Ion) will be paid off in 15 months at $288 per month. Would it make sense to buy the new car in order the pay off loan or hold onto current car that is just out of warranty but will be paid off soon?

Thanks!

Pay off the debt and keep driving the Saturn until it dies. You should be able to get several more years out your 2003 car as long as you keep up with the recommended maintenance. Just think, in 15 months you will not have the credit card debt or the car payment and you will be able to keep all the money you send out to cover those two bills. Who cares if your friends and neighbors driver fancier cars than you? You will probably have a bigger number on your bank account statement than they have on theirs.
