I have a question about Norton security products?

I bought my computer in 2006.it came with Norton Security package.i let the antivirus expire and has software.But better according to the control center of Norton firewall is on.personally still think Norton is junk.questions.1.is the firewall remains effective although the anti-virus expired.2.should just uninstall the whole thing and get the zone alarm for my firewall
