Commercial Sprinkler Systems?

Ok here is the question, I am a level one alarm tech and I have ran a lot of wire in different areas, but the one that by far makes me the most nervous is running on a sprinkler pipe. Well I was running on a pipe one day, and it made me want to ask this, when a sprinkler goes off does it go off in the whole building or just that sprinkler. The most our company deals with on sprinklers is waterflows and valve tampers so if anyone could help it would be appreciated thanks.

The answers given are correct, but I hope you are not really running fire alarm conductors ON sprinkler pipe. NFPA 13, the sprinkler standard, does not permit any attachments to sprinkler piping, or to electrical conduit.

You might read Article 760 of NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code, to get better acquainted with the rules.
