Ethical questions reguarding Criminal Justice( Police Officers) Professionals? Part 2?

Police Loyalty
1 Do you feel that most officers whould cover other officers no matter what?
2 What about the use of force?
3 Have you ever witnessed force being used? If so what type of situations?
4How about just because a suspect mouthed off or threatened someones authority? 5 What if they abuse a child?
6 Have you had any problems in a social situation where people didnt know you were an officer and did something illegal in front of you?
7 Have you ever been asked for favors, ie information from friends family members co workers?
8 How do you feel about laws against certain types of crimes such as gambleing, prostitution, marajuana, pornography?
9 What is the attitude in your department about those issues?
Discretion
1Is it necessary?
2 what is your critera for certain discretion? juveniles- process or talk to parents?, speeding-how high?, let other cops go?
3How about nucience calls? same alarm goes off all the time do you treat it as if its a potential burglary?

1) Hopefully they’ll do the right thing, and if you mean cover, as in keep your 6, I definetly hope so.
2) Use of force is 100% justified in certain situations but not all.
3) Never mind wittnessed it, used it. One was a domestic violence, once was when my partner was attacked by a guy with a sword, 2 times for when I felt a civilians life was in danger,( 1 was fatal).
4) A mouthy actor does not call for a Use of Force, no matter what crap they’re spewing, unless the situation escalates to a point where they draw a weapon, force is not needed.
5) If a child is in imminent danger such as a knife or gun to his/her head, I WILL use force, and deadly if needed.
6) Yes and that is when you use a discretionary call. If they take a hoot off a joint, give liquor to a minor, something simple like that no big deal. If they communicate for the purpose of making a sale, large or small of drugs, or anything to do with weapons or violence, the gloves come off, the tin comes out, and they go bye-bye, to appear before the court.
7) Yes, they don’t get it unless there is a bonafide 100% worthy reason, and I’ll only go as far to help them out with claims for insurance purposes by running plate numbers or such. Nothing frivolous.
8) Gambling no big deal any more since half the nation has an Native Casino an hours drive or less from it, grass should actually be allowed in certain small amounts for personal use but until that changes it is another discrtion / judgement call, prostitution should be lagalized and licensed to keep both parties safe, porn is okay as long as it is for your own use and does not feature any minors, people with child porn should have their parts surgically removed, and not necessarily by a Dr.
9) Most of the fellow members in my detachment have the same ideas.

Discretion:
1) Most assuredly needed in all cases under investigation or before the courts.
2) Juvies- The situation depends on the type of judgement call made by me, Stolen Auto (CHARGE,PROCESS), liqour- Dump out, give a lecture, drive them home, the crap the parents give them is usually stronger than what a Judge would, and it spares them a record.
Speeding- Depends on road conditions but I usually allow 10-12 over.
Fellow LEO’S – This is when “professional courtesy” steps in if I know the guy or see the tin. Exceptions to that rule are murder, child molestation, or girlfriend beating. The latter will usually end up with me pulling him away, talking to him, and taking him to a “safe” place to calm down, I also hold his DL just for extra insurance ,and car keys for 12 hours.

Every alarm call that comes in you MUST treat as a potential life threatning or loss of property situation, and if it is a call where there are workers 24 hrs a day you usually code 3 it and request EMT assist just in case.
