Information on how to build a simple circuit to make a simple alarm?

The internet as well as books are full of these circuits. I don’t know how good the circuit is described here but these types of circuits are notorious for errors and such.

How about a simple series circuit with a normally open lever switch?

If you want it to be tamper proof, then it becomes complicated real fast.

X10 technology. If you do a search for that, you should find alarms for all sorts of things, and you can by a wireless control panel cheaper than you could ever build one.
