has anyone tried a bed wetting alarm for their child? What type, and how well did it work?

My 5 year old son wets just aout every night. He is beginning to become self-conscious about it. I don’t want it to be psychologically harmfull to him, and I don’t want to do laundry all the time!

I knew a kid that had that problem. I got a wire mesh screen, like the ones in your sliding screen door (it has to be metal, not plastic). I made two squares (I suppose they were about 2 feet square) and put masking tape around the perimeter (except for about an inch, where the electrical clips go). I bought an alarm and a battery pack at radio shack that took four D batteries, put the clips, one on each screen, and connected it to alarm bell.
I put one mesh under a sheet and one on top. Then a second sheet on top of that. Test it by mixing a little salt water and drop about a teaspoon full on the bed to make sure it works. And it did work! The kid was happy. The parents would describe to me hearing the alarm going off at night, about the kid waking up and in a short time the kid was cured! I felt very good to hear from the family about how I helped them. Well, that was in the seventies. I doubt that radio shack even carries those items any more. I guess they have more sophisticated devices on the Internet. They also sold those things in the seventies, but what I did cost about five bucks or so. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase such a device. I don’t know how much they are, but electronically they are pathetically simple.
If you do decide to make one yourself, use a battery pack. I don’t know if it’s worth mentioning because it is so obvious, but using the electricity coming out of your wall like this can be fatal !!
I just looked on the Internet. Sears sells a device called “wee-alert” (silly name, eh). There are other bed-wetting alarms on the Internet also.
