Why does a cellphone ringing in the room mess with the radio?

I have a small alarm clock/radio on my desk in my office. Whenever anyone’s cell phone goes off (rings, text alerts, vm alerts) it buzzes and stutters very loudly regardless of the volume the radio is at. Why is that? Can I do anything to stop it?

Cell phones use wave frequencies similar to that of clocks, radios, or sometimes even computers. So incoming cell waves can mess with the electronics in your house, and they can mess up your reception sometimes.
