is there a free program that removes errors and bugs on your PC?

when i startup my computer, i have numerous “errors” come up on my screen- failed applications, shortcuts, and the like. also my computer has become very slow since i started using Zone Alarm. i had tried the PC Doctor program that scanned my computer, and found like 1,000 errors on it…which is probably why it’s so slow, but then wanted to charge me to repair the errors. is there anything out there for free that can find and repair errors on the PC?
