Alarm system renewed my contract but I don’t want to stay in it.. What can I do?

So I signed a contract for 36 months. The time runs out July 29th. I knew I had to write a letter 60 days in advance to cancel it… so I did. Found out they meant 60 days from the time I signed the contract not the day it was installed. So i missed the 60 days and they are making me be in another 3 year contract. Is there anyway out of this? It does say it on the contract that if they dont hear from us before 60 days they will automatically renew the contract. I need to get out of it. Help!
Well the contract also says that the company agrees to provide services from the date above (7/8) but they didn’t actually provide services until 7/29 when the system was installed. So technically did they breech their contract too? I guess what I am trying to ask is how serious are these contracts? Is it possible to tell them sorry, I am not paying you another 3 years.

Your telling of this does not sound quite right. Are you stating that you now have what the remainder of a 72 month contract (1st 3yr contract and “another 3 yr contract”). This seems to be excessive.

Contact the BBB or your local city ombudsman, who may be able to mitigate your contract. Reading and understanding are important actions to do before signing any contract.
