how can the current hunger crisis in Africa be resolved with more involvement from the local communities.?

The present situation of hunger in africa is presently alarming particularly within the sub-saharan Africa. This is chiefly due to the effects of lack of rains for some months thus leading to poor yields. With this, the local population and animals are starving and leading to numerous deaths. What place has the local community in the improvement and prevention of this problem. Thank you.

It would be nice if they could set up irrigation techniques like we have, so that when there is a drought the crops and animals can still have water. This could be connected to local streams,ponds, lakes and rivers so as not to cost for the water itself. Stock piling feed on a yearly basis for the animals in a dry place so that is kept viable is a good thing, kind of like a feed savings account for when times are tough. Another reason why they are having so much trouble is that alot of adults are sick or dying from aids and other diseases. There needs to be a major campaign initiated over there to prevent the preventable illnesses. Vaccinations, and education to teach prevention. I often watch the learning channel and I am disgusted at what is happening in Africa that doesn’t have to be, especially since other parts of Africa are just as well off as we are over here in the states, it makes me wonder why the government doesn’t step in with a plan.
