Nurse Call Alarms

Class C drugs during pregnancy?
I am 18 weeks pregnant and have bronchitis. After taking a whole prescription of Zithromax, my ob/gyn suggested i go to the urgent care last night since i was coughing profusely. So I go and they gave me a shot of Rocephin. They also gave me 3 prescriptions which are scaring the mess out of me since I talked to the pharmacist about them. They are Biaxin, Medrol, and Proventil. All are class C drugs which can cause harm to my baby. The nurse at my ob doctor’s office didn’t seem alarmed but after calling a few pharmacists, they are all somewhat alarmed that they would give a pregnant woman these drugs.
Do any of you have any experience with any of these drugs during pregnancy or know anything that might ease my mind? I want to get better, I really do, I just know I will spend the rest of my pregnancy worrying I have hurt my child… Thanks for any advice.
Class C drugs haven’t been tested on humans during pregnancy as it would be unethical, so they are tested on lab animals. They have been regularly shown to have adverse side effects on animal fetuses and these are drugs that you and your doctor need to discuss if the benefits outweigh the possible outcome.
I can see that you’re worried out of your mind about this, so my advice would be to avoid them all together. I know how miserable it can be to have bronchitis period, let alone bronchitis while pregnant (I just got over having bronchitis as well as sinus infection).
I seem to get over it faster if I purposely try to cough up the phlegm instead of letting it rattle, as soon as I feel even a slight rattle in my lungs, I cough it up. Spit it up. Take warm showers as often as possible to attempt to loosen it up in your chest, focus shower head on upper chest or middle of your back for 10-15 minutes. Get a warm mist humidifier with vicks liquid drops, use vicks vaporub on your chest at night, drink warm tea with lots of lemon and honey, avoid dairy products (this may be an old wives tale but I stick by it faithfully).
I’ve gotten bronchitis at least 3 or 4 times a year since I was a child, so I’m a pro at this game. I usually stick it out but trust me, I know your pain.
